Aquarium....a week late, oops

This post is nearly a week late, I thought I posted these pics but I guess I never did.  Better late than never??

Last Saturday we decided to go to Coney Island to go to the aquarium and to get Nathan's hotdogs.  With the awesome weather we figured this might have been the last trip until at least the spring because a lot of the aquarium is outdoors and I doubt we would see any animals while it snows.  We also decided to drive because it takes over 2 hours by subway and that sucks.  It took us no time at all to drive there but the ride home we were not that lucky.  I hate tourists.

Because we have a membership, 4-D movies are included for free.  So when we got there we went right over to see what was playing at it was Polar Express.  Jim was so pumped and Brady thought the glasses were cool.  Once we got in there I quickly realized Brady was going to hate it.  It was really loud, there were crazy effects like air blowing on you, and it was super dark.  Luckily it was about 10 minutes long, which is the perfect length of time for a movie for Harper.  She enjoyed herself and I was glad it was over.  There probably won't be any 4-D movies in our near future.

Us before the movie started.

After that painful experience we decided to stall going into the aquarium and go get some lunch.  In Jim's pretend world in his head Nathan on the boardwalk was going to be open.  Um Jim, its nearly December the boardwalk will be completely closed.  And it was.  We were starving and starting to lose interest in Jim's plans when we spotted someone with a Nathan's cup and asked him where he got it from.  Luckily the original Nathan's place was only a block off of the boardwalk and we walked there.

After lunch we let Harper try walking on the boardwalk.  Didn't last long because she was drawn to the graffiti covered trash cans.

Insisted there were fish down there.  Nope, just sand and rocks and trash.

Where the hell have I been?

I sometimes know in the back of my head that it has been a few days since my last post but I don't usually notice exactly how long its been until I go to make a new post.  Wow, almost a whole week since my last one, where the hell have I been?

After a long and painful battle with cancer, Jim's grandmother passed away this past week.  So we headed to NY to attend the viewing and funeral and then raced back to the city to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary on Friday.

A little picnic during the viewing.  After saying to Grandma Judy "(sniff sniff) I smell something." Oh yeah, what? "I smell snacks."  She was eating a mint, haha.  I used to do that as a young kid so I find this even funnier.  Except I said "you stink like gum."  We took that as a sign he needed dinner, even if it was McDonald's eaten in the funeral home parking lot.

There is this huge pot in Midge's kitchen and when he was all hopped up on sugar Thursday night he fell in love with screaming into it.  Well Friday morning while I was getting ready he calls to me "Mom, come look at me!"

"I'm standing in the bucket Mom."  Safety is his middle name.

I don't remember if I wrote it here, but Jim actually forgot our anniversary last year.  Yeah, not a good thing at all.  Well, after giving him a hard time for the last year he really stepped his game up.  He planned something (which is a shock in and of itself) and honestly I didn't care what he planned I was just happy I didn't have to do the planning.  He has always wanted to go to Caroline's since they often talk about it on Howard Stern.  It turned out Mario Cantone was the comedian that night and we were ok with that.  Such a fun experience, even though I thought the host was funnier.  Mario was very much pop culture so since I don't watch American Idol or The Voice I was kinda lost.  Oh, and I know nothing about Liza Minnelli so I had NO IDEA what he was talking about then either.  But overall, it was so fun and we will be doing it again.

After the comedy show and dinner we went to the Empire State Building.  That was so neat and I am glad we went without kids.

View from the top.  Funny story.  Some kid took our picture and then asked if I would take one for his group.  He spoke decent English but after I snapped his picture a bunch of words flashed on the screen in some other language.  I guess in my buzzed state is felt like the camera was yelling at me so I quick threw it back at him and ran.

The New York Life building.

The view looking South.  I guess we didn't take pictures from any other view because this is all I have.

My inlaws came here after the funeral to watch my kids so we could go out and then they went to the city for a show today and we watched Jacob.  It was not so much "watching Jacob" as it was enlisting Jacob to chase Brady throughout NYC.  We went to Coney Island to go to the Aquarium with our free zoo passes.  After about 2.5 hours in travel time we finally got there.  I think it took us 5 trains to get there with certain subway lines being out of service.  Not fun.  And once we got there we realized it was some crazy parade day so the place was PACKED!!  We were all starving when we got there so we hauled it down to Nathan's hot dog to have lunch.  Who doesn't love fake orange cheese??  Those french fries were so good and I can't wait to go back, hopefully on a not so crowded kind of day.

Harper was dive bombing for my french fries.  She thought they were super yummy too.  But then again she will seriously eat anything.

The aquarium was not huge, but big enough that I didn't feel slighted.  When we left we asked Brady what his favorite part was... the tigers or the zebras.  Not quite the same trip dude, that was the zoo a few weeks ago.  Then he changed his answer to "the fishes, all the fishes."

This morning before my inlaws left, Pepa told Brady to make sure Jacob bought him an ice cream while we were gone and Brady did not forget this.  The boy sat on a bench and enjoyed their ice cream.

He is getting too big for my liking.

Here is a view of the parade as we were heading back to the subway.  Totally nuts!!

Sissy got to sit on the subway seat for the ride back.  This is right before she was caught licking the poles.

We were smarter on the way home and avoided the closed subways and took a different way home.  We walked through Manhattan and took a detour to Washington Square Park to show Jacob where I Am Legend was filmed.  What a cool place!  Jim and I had been there at night but the action during the day was great!!  There was tons of musicians and performers.  We did however get totally skeeved out watching some guy feed pigeons and squirrels because they were climbing all over him.  So gross!!  Of course the best part was the fountain in the middle.  I drug Brady kicking and screaming into the water and it took him all of 10 seconds to be completely soaked and loving it!!

I felt bad for Sissy so I thought I would bring her in and show her the water.  She was trying to jump out of my arms to get to the water.

A sad and wet boy. He didn't want to get out.
11-6-18-small-10.jpg

He was soaked and we didn't have any extra clothes so he rode home in his undies.  Oh and random gross milestone.... Brady peed in his first plastic water bottle in the streets of NYC.  After running him to like 5 different restaurants/stores we just went with it.  How is it possible Subway doesn't have a bathroom?  He ran back to me yelling "Mom, I peed in a bottle!!"  I am still chuckling at this.

We watched another live performance before leaving the park and heading home.  We stopped for pizza at a place outside of the PATH station and since Brady's clothes were soaked he was just wearing his undies.  As we sat there people walked by staring and laughing.  It wasn't until I walked outside to see what view they were getting did I understand.  Haha!!

We had a lot of fun today and everyone earned the showers/tubbies that happened once we got home.  Big thanks to Uncle Jacob for helping out today.  He was a good sport!!

Here are the rest of the pictures I had on my cameras when I emptied them tonight.

My stellar parenting skills that happen at 7:07am.

I posted the cell phone pics last week, but here she is covered in black beans at Chipotle.

"What do you mean I have something on my face?"  I found beans in her armpits during clean up.

We finally talked Brady into visiting the splash pad in Hoboken last weekend.  It was actually featured on ABC World News Tonight.  Thanks to Cara for making me scour the internet looking for the video.
