State of the Union

We have been here for about 2.5 months now.  I am starting to feel slightly settled in the area we live and can now find my way around Jersey and NYC pretty easily.  We have been all over the place, obviously, and the good thing is that we still have plenty more to see and do.  Most days I am happy to be able to have so many awesome opportunities of things to do and food to eat, but then other days the insane boredom/loneliness comes back and makes me sad.  Overall though, I would say I am doing pretty good and not wanting to kill Jim in his sleep for making me move here.  It took me a good 4-6 months to even be able to function in NH when we first moved here, so I would say this has been successful thus far.

We found a place and at this time next week the movers will be filling our new place with all of our stuff that has been in storage.  I can't even express how excited I am to get all my stuff back.  I want to sleep in my giant comfy bed, make a cake with my mixer, roast something in a roasting pan, and get organized.  Here in this apartment there is a ton of light and lots of space, but NO closet/storage space.  Everything is out for the taking in Brady's opinion and I am over that.  I want to have more than 2 pair of flip flops and 3 jackets to pick from.  I want Harper to sleep in a girl crib and have all of her next stage toys available.  I want Brady to be able to have his toys back and all his books too.  I am really getting sick of the few books we have here to read at bedtime and throughout the day.

We decided to rent while living here, mostly because Jim's office still hasn't decided if/when/where they will be moving.   Is it Brooklyn?? Queen??  Long Island??  No one knows so for us to buy right now would be stupid.  We looked at a ton of places and nothing really fit us.  But 2 weeks ago I walked into a newly constructed 3 bedroom place here in Jersey City and knew it was it.  We signed the lease and can't wait to move in.  It has a ton of space, almost 2000sf, (which is more than our house in NH) but its just laid out differently.  We have the first floor behind the garage as a finished basement/laundry/ full bath area.  We have a quasi fenced in small yard that will be perfect for playing in a water table and letting dogs out to pee.  There are stairs that lead up to the 2nd floor which is where most of the living space is.  There is a really nice kitchen with lots of cabinet space and counter space.  A decent sized living/dining room that will take some creative solution to make totally functional.  The way the lighting is set up now, if you used the "dining room" as a dining room you would be left with no living space.  More on that to come once we get our stuff in there and moved around.  There are 2 equal sized smallish bedrooms, a linen closet, a hall bath, and then the master.  The master has a walk in closet that's not huge and a full bath.  We also get one side of the garage which is 2 cars deep so lots of storage space which means we won't have to rent a space somewhere (thank goodness!).  I just can't wait.  And its new and clean and no one else lived there.  I looked at so many places that I just couldn't even imagine how many times I would have to clean for it to ever feel clean.  So woohoo for new!!

Potty training is going well.  He does awesome when he is completely n.aked from the waist down and does ok when he is wearing undies.  I just want him to magically be done with diapers although I don't know how it will go once we venture out.  There aren't bathrooms readily available when we are out and about and what the hell do you do on the subway?  Do they sell little contraptions your kid can piss in?  Ugh, I just don't know.  I know we have to eventually ditch the diapers and he is doing well so I almost think we are holding him back at this point.  I can vividly remember my mom being frustrated because my brother constantly had to go and would often pee in plastic bags in parking lots, is this my future?

Harper is still just along for the ride.  She is sooo the 2nd child.  She has tried foods Brady would never have been allowed to... grilled cheese sandwiches, cheesecake, pretty much anything we eat while we are out to eat.  She loves it though and I don't feed her big pieces so I guess she is fine.  She even ate a Cheerio so I think we are on the right track.  She sleeps well, naps well, and smiles at everyone.  I really like her.

Jim likes his job or so he claims.  I am sure he would never tell me otherwise since I wasn't thrilled to come here.  He is busy and likes that.  He works very late on Mondays but not too many other nights in the week which is great!  His commute is only about 35-40 minutes so he is home about the same time as NH which is awesome!!

I am loving being so close to home.  We have taken day trips, had overnight guests, and been able to see family for holidays.  Its so easy to get to and from and I am a huge fan of the quick trips.  And Brady is really loving seeing everyone so often, he talks about everyone to anyone who will listen.  Today he told a woman in the elevator that Pepa got him a new car and that Uncle Tommy gave him an airplane (which he got at Christmastime).

The dogs come back in less than 2 weeks, will I survive that transition?

OK, enough words.  Here are some pictures today.  Brady spiked a fever and was so off his game.  He took a nap at 9am and hasn't done that since before he turned 1 year old.  We laid low for most of the day but in the afternoon I needed to go to Target to buy harper new binkies so we headed there.  I bought him a new bubble wand since our old ones are nearly gone.  He insisted on riding his scooter but didn't even get off the apartment complex grounds before giving up on that so I was stuck schlepping the scooter to Target and back again.  I won't be doing that again.

Poor girl baby stuck using a boy pirate binky because its the only one I had last night after I caught the other ones on fire.  Its an old one of Brady's that was floating around in the changing table bin for who knows how long.  But it worked so whatev.

She wore her shades for our walk today.  And by wore them I mean she let me put them on her a few times and promptly removed them.  She did play with them happily the whole time and didn't once launch them overboard.  Seriously, can you see that my stroller looks like a pack mule.  There is our target bag hanging on one side, the stroller hanging over the top, and the basket is full of everything heavy I couldn't put in the bag at Target.

We blew bubbles and he chased them.  Most people smiled and helped him pop them while they walked by but I am sure we annoyed people too.

And lastly videos of Harper's new Busy Ball Popper from her Easter basket. That stupid bunny forgot to leave D batteries to make it go so I picked those up today at Target. Try not to notice Brady's droopy diaper and overall hot mess-ness, this is about 20 minutes after he puked all over our bed, himself, Harper, his blanket. We tried to keep them apart but he heard this going and ran out. He probably even has vomit particles in his hair.  He went straight to the tub after this.

And here is a video of just her playing with it before he heard the fun she was having. There are some serious crawling moves being attempted in the middle, I am not happy about that.  But her sweet baby giggles are just too cute!!  I am trying to take more videos, how am I doing?  I love looking back at these kinds of everyday videos.

p park picnic

We did 2 letters of the week this week and P was one of the letters.  We did lots of fun stuff to go with the letter P but the best part was our park picnic.  There is this big grassy area on the water in Hoboken so we planned a picnic on Thursday night.  The weather was perfect and we somehow managed to cram everything we needed into the stroller.

So happy considering it was pretty much her bedtime at this point.

He wore his Pirate shirt for the park picnic.  I wore a Phillies shirt because it had a big P on it.  Dad wore his pink sweatshirt.

I brought a bubble wand and we either made friends or enemies.  We attracted all the kids to our spot but forced away the crazy karate exercising guy.

While Brady did bubbles Harper met a boy.  A very nice boy who wanted to borrow her binky and play with her face.

That picnic was so much fun.  We can't wait until the next warm day that we can do it again!!
