letter of the week- P & Q
We haven't done crafts and such in a while so planned a bunch for this week using the next 2 letters in our rotation.
For P we did a picnic at the park, ate peas, made a penguin, and used pink and purple polka dots.
For Q we ate quesadillas, did quarter rubbings, made a queen, and took a quilt to our picnic.

Letter of the week-S and R and a few other random crafts
We obviously took a break from the alphabet mostly because brainiac boy taught himself the alphabet and I birthed a baby. This week the next letter in order, S, was very fitting so we worked on it. Lots of fun stuff!! S is for stickers, stamps, sparkles, snowflakes, and snowman.
S is for smiley stickers.
One morning we went to the post office to buy stamps. Brady was able to put stamps on the cards, even if he called them stickers. So if your card comes and the stamp is upside down or crooked, you know who to thank ;) I didn't take pictures because the post office isn't easy with 2 wee ones in tow.
We made paper snowflakes window clings. We will refer to this project as giantfuckingmess. Sparkles are fun to look at but in my tiny little kitchen they seem to mass produce and go everywhere. He enjoyed himself and in the end they look nice. He really seems to like having stuff on the windows and I was too late buying actual window clings at the Dollar Store. Apparently the Dollar Store sold out of winter stuff in October, whatev! I will more than likely NEVER do this again. The contact paper had a hard time sticking because of the large amount of sparkles. Oh and if you are in need on a how-to for cutting out the snowflakes I found THIS ONE very helpful. Yes, I googled "how to cut paper snowflakes."
BEAUTIFUL!
We made a cotton ball snowman. Luckily I prepped this last night because I had all the parts cut out, assembled, and ready to go and I was able to keep his attention to see this through all at once. We did this last year with marshmallows and it was super heavy so the cotton balls worked much better.
Jim called while we were working so he multi-tasked. Haha!!

And lastly our Penguin family. We made these a few weeks ago but I forgot to post the picture. Or maybe I already did, who knows!?!

Letter of the Week - T
Well it only took a month but we finished our last T activity today, better late than never I guess. Not like I haven't been kinda busy lately... you know new baby and all.
This was the final activity. We made a turtle similar to the way we made the apple a while back. Every day when he goes down for his nap we talk about what we are going to do when he wakes up. He often just makes up shit because when he wakes up he is pretty crabby and doesn't even want to play outside. I will say 90% of his "plans" for the last month have involved making this turtle. We just never got to it. He was pretty pumped this morning when I got it all set up. And lately, I can't take his picture without him making a big cheese face and hamming it up. Doesn't he know sometimes I am just taking an action shot??
Finished product complete with his favorite..... googly eyes!! He was so excited about this turtle he was telling Jim about it from the front steps as Jim pulled into the driveway. He just didn't understand that Jim couldn't hear him and he needed to wait for him to get out of the car to tell him.
The rest of these were done the week before Harper was born.
T is for tire tracks. He drove his car all over to make the tracks. He is still talking about doing this. Whenever he plays with that car he tells me he used it to make the tire tracks with the black paint.

Letter of the Week-U
We skipped last week because we were super busy and not really home much during the morning hours, which is when its best to work on letter of the week stuff. So this week we got back to it. Unfortunately there weren't too many great ideas out there to steal and my brain is officially on vacation, so just a few little activities. Not that it matters because at this point he knows nearly the whole alphabet (he thinks K is R until you says no, try again, and he gets V and Y confused sometimes, but knows all the others). When I started, about 6 weeks ago, he only knew a few letters and I haven't really worked too hard on it. Its amazing how much they just suck up like a sponge. He really likes his alphabet fridge magnet thing and loves looking at alphabet flash cards, so that's surely helping. He also loves Trader Joes alphabet cookies and the foam letters in the bathtub. He is constantly noticing letters and numbers when we are out and about, although according to him everything is a number. "Look Mommy, the number B." He now will read the letters he sees on signs or stores. He also loves THIS puzzle, if you don't own it you are missing out big time. So now when he sees a letter he will say "L says ladybug" or "N says nails." Genius puzzle I tell you.
We made our U for umbrella this time. He glued on blue rain drops but it must have been a killer storm since the drops are coming from every which angle.

We did an activity where we took a hotwheels car and talked about what the car could go under. This was kinda hard for him but we still had a good time.
I couldn't come up with any good U foods, beside upside down cake and I didn't want to make that. I have decided that we will continue on with the letters more for the fun activities but I am not going to go out of my way to come up with 932 things to go along with each letters, especially if its a boring letter like U. But this week is T and we have lots of fun things going on, so who knows.

Letter of the week-V (and W, X, Y, and Z too)
Last week we worked on the letter V. I meant to post this but forgot to.
We made our V into a volcano of v's. Can you see how it is a volcano spewing the v's out? I used my foam stickers again, cutting the triangles into the v shape. The red squiggles is magma, just in case you are like Cara and weren't sure. Haha!! Ok, now Cara thinks she is so smart and just informed me that its in fact lava. Happy now Cara? Ha!
We are wrapping up our vegetable garden at this point and so in honor of the garden we made vegetables with coordinating colored pieces of crap, I mean treasures like gems and feathers. We made a tomato, squash, and zucchini since that's what was most abundant in the garden.
We did our lacing V, but no pictures of that. I imagine you could assume it looks just like the W did only a V this time.
We enjoyed vanilla pudding. A lot. I love a blooper. He looks drunk.
Waiting for it to solidify.

Letter W (from old blog)
We are moving right along, in reverse of course. I originally started this for two reasons, to teach him the ABCs and to give our day some structure. It has worked out very well except he is learning the letters faster than I am teaching them. But that's totally OK, he is part genius you know. We will still continue on because he loves the activities and I love having to use my brain.
So onto this week.... We made our obligatory W, for watermelon. Those "seeds" are actually colored foam circle stickers that I colored with a Sharpie to make them black, ha. I needed him to make dots and knew that if I gave him any type of writing utensil he would scribble and not dot. So this was the perfect solution and he got to do stickers, which he loves.
We actually started the week with my favorite activity yet. I used painters tape and made a W. As you saw in a previous post he LOVES, LOVES, LOVES lining up his cars. So I told him to line up his cars on the W and he went right to town. Instead of doing it the way I imagined(boring...just putting them on the line in order), he made up his own way which was starting at one end and "driving" them to the other end of the W. He was so anal about getting those cars on the line, which wasn't at all surprising, but loved this activity. We actually kept the W on the floor until the next day (when he got stuck to our feet and pulled up) and he used it to drive his cars along. We will be doing this again, for sure!!
I have been looking for a cute lacing kit to buy as a pencil pouch activity to use while we are somewhere waiting (like the beads). I couldn't find anything that was cheap enough or enough of a variety so decided to make my own. I bought foam rectangles in a jumbo pack from Wal-mart (which we have lots left over for some other crafty fun), used a letter template, and an Exacto knife. I can't believe I have lived this long without owning an exacto knife, it is so much fun! How sad that a super sharp knife makes me giddy these days, but whatev. I then punch holes in the letter, obviously I made a W first, and he laced them up. It took him a while and some guidance because I was a little overzealous with the hole distribution (read: I punched WAY too many). When he was done he asked for another letter and he picked X so I quick cut that one out. I have them all done so we have them for each week now, and for pencil pouch activities. And now I am left with a stencil for each letter so its a win win for this crafty loser.
Another day we made jello watermelons. So cute, fun, and yummy. Notice I didn't say easy, that's because peeling the life out of the limes was serious work which involved standing at the sink for a long ass time for, which is hard for this large pregnant lady. But worth it I would say. This is the first time I made jigglers and I remember my mom hated making them, not exactly sure why, but I think she said they took too long to make. Mom, you are a liar, they took me like 6 seconds to make not counting waiting for the water to boil or for them to solidify in the fridge. Do you even remember saying that? They turned out awesome and were a huge hit. He was a bit skeptical, but like most things if I tell him its candy he will try it. He ate quite a few pieces. Note of advice, don't forget to set a timer and get right up after 30 minutes to drop in the chocolate chips, I forgot to get up even after remembering to set a timer and instead of sinking into the jello like seeds, my chocolate chips floated on the surface because the jello was already too firm. Oh well, he liked picking the mini chips off each one and eating them.
This is what they looked like coming out of the fridge, I then cute them into quarters so they were easier to eat. I am not going to lie, they were weird because you could taste the lime on your lips when they touched the shells and it was just hard to avoid licking your lips. And watermelon jello doesn't come in red, only green, so this in fact strawberry jello.
Contemplating whether or not he could fit just one more.
We used the leftover jello jigglers to make Ws. They were really really yummy and Brady and I went to town.
Lastly we made a wave bottle. We had originally planned on going to the beach on Friday for the waves but since stupid old Earl messed with the forcast I was nervous and we bagged at the last minute. This was one of those blue water and oil things. Very easy and we put sparkles in there so it was even more of a hit.
Letter X (from old blog)
This past week we worked on the letter X. We, or I guess I should admit I had a hard time getting back into real life after vacation. It rained for 3 days and all I wanted to do was sleep. But we did manage to get all the planned activities done. I also started something new this week.... we went to the library one day and read books recommended to go along with the letter of the week ( found lots of sites that list books by googling). One of those books was Fox in Socks by Dr. Suess, holy crap, that's a tough book to read. Just ask Jim, I think he read it in parts because it makes your tongue numb reading all those tongue twisters.
We made X snacks
They were just breadsticks that we sprinkled cinnamon and sugar on. Note to self: don't give them "just one more minute" and then get completely side tracked because they will end up toasted and not so yummy. Didn't stop Brady from eating them though.

We made a xylophone (idea found here)
Another day we sorted our cubes and then I drew an X and he practiced putting objects on the line. I noticed he has a hard time with this so we are trying to practice whenever possible.
Then after he put the cubes on the lines he stuck stickers on there. He loved this, mostly especially the stickers. They had all kinds of trucks, diggers, and such. They were another Dollar Spot score.
Letter Y (from old blog)
This week we worked on the letter Y. Y is for yellow, yogurt, yarn, and yuck.
On Monday we introduced it and made our Y out of a bunch of yellow objects (jewels, yarn, feathers, foam stickers). I am pretty sure he loves feathers even more than he loves googly eyes now.
That night we made yogurt popsicles. I have been wanting to making popsicles with him and thought this was the perfect time to do it. Funny story, we went out this weekend and popsicle molds were on my list. So I am in Michael's and Brady and Jim go on without me to Bed, Bath, and Beyond. When I am finished in Michael's I head over and ask the first associate I see if they carry popsicle molds. She says "yes, but someone just took the last one." I will just let you imagine what words I was thinking in my head since I didn't feel like trying 948 stores to find them. I mention it was for my 2 year old and she says "oh then I think it was actually your husband and son that took the last one." Good work Jimbo! He snagged the last one. And it was about $2.25 so I liked the price even better. Here is Emeril making his yogurt pops: (Warning, these made a fucking mess so don't let your toddler wear a white shirt.)
He had to at least taste some of the yogurt mixture since he has to be patient and wait until breakfast the next day.
The next morning I was all excited to taste them and he was too. Jim was home so he got in on the action.
Super excited!

Another day we worked with yarn and made yarn spiderwebs. I had a different idea for making yarn bowls but that would involve him touching yarn covered in Elmer's glue and I just knew that wouldn't be something that worked out, he is too much like his father and would never have touched it. So yarn spiderwebs it was and it worked out great. I used contact paper which great when you would need a lot of glue for an activity because he can just put his yarn on and its stuck without making a mess. I just added a top page of contact paper and it is all sealed in.
Finished product, including my ghetto attempt at a spider. Luckily Brady doesn't give a shit if my spider is goofy looking.
Lastly, today was all about YUCK! We made a creation that I have seen called lots of different things but we called it yucky stuff. If I were a betting woman I would have guessed this activity would have lasted 21.2 seconds and would have resulted in a perfectly clean toddler. Well ladies and gentlemen, Brady channeled his inner rebel and went to town on the yucky stuff. He made a HUGE mess, but that's fine with me. I set everything up in front of him to get him excited. I added the cornstarch to the pan and then added the green water very slowly. He helped me stir to get it started. I couldn't believe my eyes when he put his whole hand in there and then did it again. There was no gagging, dry heaving, or tears. It was GREAT!!!! The dogs also enjoyed this because got to lick it off the floor, can't imagine it tasted good but it left me with less to clean up. We will do this again and next time I will make twice as much, we will do it in a diaper, and outside.

Letter Z (from old blog)
I have decided to start doing Letter of the Week activities. It seems like a good time for us to start, since we have been trying to work on him learning the alphabet. I decided to live life on the edge and start at Z and work to A, I am just a rebel like that. We started on Monday and worked through today. I already planned out next week, Y, and am really looking forward to it!!
I made a Z shape, he drew black stripes all over it to act as the bars on a cage at the zoo, and then he stuck foam animal stickers on the Z. I cut it out and glued it to a piece of construction paper.
We made zucchini muffins with actual zucchinis from my garden, pretty awesome that my garden is actually making real vegetables.
Just a quick snack while we wait for out muffins to be done.
Enjoying our muffins. I am surprised he ate them, he is usually pretty skittish when it comes to new foods.
And yes, the off the shoulder apron is all the rage amongst the toddler crowds these days.
We practiced using zippers.
We painted stripes on zebras. I drew the zebra and he used q-tips to draw his stripes all over. Once dry I cut it out and he of course needed to put googly eyes on there. The qtips were a great paintbrush to use for one time use, I will be using these again for sure.

I used contact paper which great when you would need a lot of glue for an activity because he can just put his yarn on and its stuck without making a mess. I just added a top page of contact paper and it is all sealed in.
Finished product, including my ghetto attempt at a spider. Luckily Brady doesn't give a shit if my spider is goofy looking.
Lastly, today was all about YUCK! We made a creation that I have seen called lots of different things but we called it yucky stuff. If I were a betting woman I would have guessed this activity would have lasted 21.2 seconds and would have resulted in a perfectly clean toddler. Well ladies and gentlemen, Brady channeled his inner rebel and went to town on the yucky stuff. He made a HUGE mess, but that's fine with me. I set everything up in front of him to get him excited. I added the cornstarch to the pan and then added the green water very slowly. He helped me stir to get it started. I couldn't believe my eyes when he put his whole hand in there and then did it again. There was no gagging, dry heaving, or tears. It was GREAT!!!! The dogs also enjoyed this because got to lick it off the floor, can't imagine it tasted good but it left me with less to clean up. We will do this again and next time I will make twice as much, we will do it in a diaper, and outside.

Letter Z (from old blog)
I have decided to start doing Letter of the Week activities. It seems like a good time for us to start, since we have been trying to work on him learning the alphabet. I decided to live life on the edge and start at Z and work to A, I am just a rebel like that. We started on Monday and worked through today. I already planned out next week, Y, and am really looking forward to it!!
I made a Z shape, he drew black stripes all over it to act as the bars on a cage at the zoo, and then he stuck foam animal stickers on the Z. I cut it out and glued it to a piece of construction paper.
We made zucchini muffins with actual zucchinis from my garden, pretty awesome that my garden is actually making real vegetables.
Just a quick snack while we wait for out muffins to be done.
Enjoying our muffins. I am surprised he ate them, he is usually pretty skittish when it comes to new foods.
And yes, the off the shoulder apron is all the rage amongst the toddler crowds these days.
We practiced using zippers.
We painted stripes on zebras. I drew the zebra and he used q-tips to draw his stripes all over. Once dry I cut it out and he of course needed to put googly eyes on there. The qtips were a great paintbrush to use for one time use, I will be using these again for sure.

Just pretend those are zoo animals and not dinosaurs. I was working with that I had and he doesn't know the difference.
