Harper's NYC trip {day 1}

Harper is a smart girl, very smart.  She has expensive taste and knows a good thing when she sees it.  She also has a love for Manhattan that excites me so much, because I too love Manhattan.  For her 3rd and 4th birthdays we went to the American Girl Store and she got bitty babies which she still loves.

Then, last January Jim and I went on an overnight work trip to Manhattan and after that Harper decided she too wanted to sleep overnight in NYC.  Her insanely generous Mema and Pepa gifted her a hotel room for a night and her 5 year old dreams came true.  But the funniest part is the kids didn't want to walk around and do anything in the city, they just wanted to hang out in the hotel room.  But being that it is NYC the room was like 6.6 square feet big so we needed to be out and about and do a little adventuring.  Lots of pictures in this post... actually there will be 2 parts to this post, because otherwise it will take too long to load.

We got into Hoboken around lunchtime.  Brady and I had the Taco Truck and Jim and the girls had bagels.  Then we took the Path train into the city.  We decided to head towards the hotel and see if there was any chance we could check into our room early.  We had everything we needed to sleep overnight in the stroller and on our backs so it would have been very helpful to dump off some stuff.  We got lucky and got into our room.  4 seconds after we opened the door their minds blew up when they found out they could jump on the beds while wearing shoes.  We seriously could have just stayed there doing this for hours and they would have been plenty happy.

We didn't really want to have to visit an ER so we cut the jumping short after about a half hour and set out towards the American Girl store.  Harper had some birthday money to spend and was able to buy her babies bathing suits and something else I can't seem to remember at this point.  (Jim, do you remember?)  We hit up Rockafeller Center and the Lego Store.  We then walked down to Bryant Park and the carousel.  After staying there a while I think it was nearly dinner time so we headed to dinner.  We wanted to introduce the kids to Five Napkin Burger because we were there and loved it.  We waited FOREVER but the meal was good.  They brought out cake with a candle so we could sing to our birthday girl and she ate up all that attention.

After dinner we pretty much ran back to the hotel for bed.  It wasn't that late but we were all exhausted.  We pushed one of the beds up against a wall and put all 3 kids in that one.  It took Brady a while to fall asleep and the baby ended up falling out of the bed in the middle of the night.  Fun times!!  Sleeping in a hotel with small children is a form of torture for the parents.

These pictures are from our first day, Saturday.  I'll post the pictures from Sunday in the next post.

She was the first to try it and love it, so adventurous.

I'm fully aware that these pictures are blurry but I don't care one bit.  You can still see their insanely happy faces and that's all that matters.

Yes, that's Jim throwing the baby through the air.  And she begged for more.

The kids wanted to try our favorite donut place, Dough, so we went to the closest location.  It took a while to figure out what we want and wait in line so they took to hiding out under the bar.

Harper asked for an overnight stay in NYC for her birthday. And that's what she got. I should have asked for a good night's sleep because I know we won't be getting that. 😴😴😴

sweet sisters

Harper spends most of her day coloring and to mix it up I occasionally spread the paper out on the floor.  The other day we did it while Emerson was awake (it usually happens when Emerson is napping) so she of course had to copy everything Harper did.  They are just so sweet together.  And that dog, he just won't leave them alone when they do anything on the floor... drives Harper batty.
